As a gateway city for an Alaska cruise, Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada may not immediately come to mind as a city with beautiful beaches.  After all, one doesn’t exactly think of nice beaches when Canada is mentioned.

Vancouver’s beaches, in fact, are popular with locals and tourists alike. Both National Geographic and Travel + Leisure included the 2012 Winter Olympics host city in their list of Top 10 Beach Cities and 10 Best City Beaches in the World, respectively. Forbes has even included one of the city’s beaches, Kitsilano, in its Sexiest Beaches list.

So, if you want to experience one of the nicest beaches in the world before or after your Alaska cruise, you must make sure Vancouver is your embarkation and/or disembarkation port!

Here are some of the beaches you’ll find around the city!

Kitsilano Beach

Kitsilano, or Kits, is probably the most popular beach in the city, where you'll not only find sunbathers, but also people playing tennis and basketball, rollerblading, walking, and cycling. Approximately 10 minutes by car from Canada Place cruise ship terminal

Third Beach Stanley Park

Located in Stanley Park, minutes from Canada Place cruise ship terminal is Third Beach. Come here if you are looking for a quieter beach experience.

Jericho Beach west side of Vancouver

One of the beaches found in Vancouver's west side is Jericho Beach, approximately a 15 minute drive from Canada Place cruise terminal.

English Bay

English Bay Beach is in the west end neighborhood of downtown and a short drive (5 minutes) from Canada Place cruise ship terminal.

What makes Vancouver’s beaches so fabulous is regardless of which one you’re at, you’re guaranteed breathtaking views.
